Mr Aslam Mohammed is an experienced consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in hip and knee sports injuries and complex hip and knee problems. He works at Wrightington Hospital for Joint Disease, which is one of the UK's few specialist orthopaedic centres. During his time here, he has put together two specialist teams – one that deals with hip and knee sports injuries and one dedicated to young adult hip problems. Mr Mohammed also practises at the Princess Grace Hospital, the Wilmslow Hospital, and Euxton Hall Hospital.
He offers his patients thorough and in-depth assessments to allow for an accurate diagnosis and the discussion of treatment options. He also takes international referrals in addition to UK referrals. Where possible, Mr Mohammed aims to preserve the joint and favours the use of minimal access surgery. He uses evidence-based therapies to give his patients the best outcomes and regularly visits centres of excellence around the world to extend his knowledge and also to share his own expertise with others in the field.
Mr Mohammed gained his medical qualifications from the Welsh National School of Medicine in 1984 before undertaking extensive training in orthopaedics at the Robert Jones Orthopaedic Hospital and the North Staffordshire Hospital. During his training, he earned the GK Rose prize for biomechanics and the Professors Gold Medal for his research on bone cell culture techniques. He has remained active in research and has designed instruments for use in hip arthroscopy and hip surgery to optimise outcomes and minimise side effects. He also has a passion for education, and he trains orthopaedic surgeons on the North West and Mersey training programmes.
