Mr Rajesh Deshmukh is a Consultant Eye Surgeon with world renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists of London, the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow, and the International Council of Ophthalmology.
Mr Deshmukh undertook his specialist ophthalmology training at the Moorfields Hospital and University Eye Hospital in Bristol. He went on to develop his skills further in cataract surgery by doing a fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital, and an additional fellowship at the University Eye Hospital, Bristol, focusing on retinal disorders. Having passed Advanced senior Fellowship in the field of Cataract Surgery and Vision Correction, Mr Deshmukh completed Certification in Laser and Refractive Surgery from Royal College of Ophthalmology and Post Graduate Diploma in Cataract and Refractive Surgery from Ulster University.
Mr. Rajesh Deshmukh is a highly accomplished cataract surgeon with extensive experience and expertise in the field. Since 2013, he has been supervising and training ophthalmologists in cataract surgery, performing over 1,000 procedures annually, which positions him as one of the busiest cataract surgeons in the UK. He offers a comprehensive range of refractive surgery options, including laser vision correction and lens-based refractive surgeries. His proficiency extends to various intraocular lenses, such as multifocal lenses for distance, intermediate, and reading vision without glasses; EDOF (Extended Depth of Focus) lenses for spectacle independence; toric lenses to correct astigmatism; and EVO ICL (Implantable Contact Lens).
Mr. Deshmukh is particularly renowned for his ability to handle complex cataract cases. He is the "go-to" specialist for manual small incision sutureless cataract surgery (MSICS) when routine phacoemulsification proves challenging. Among the few surgeons in the UK who practice and teach MSICS and ECCE (extracapsular cataract extraction), he is well-equipped to address very complex cataracts.
In addition to his clinical work, Mr. Deshmukh has made significant contributions to global eye care as a facilitator for the World Health Organization (WHO). He has conducted teaching workshops in four of the five regions of the Sultanate of Oman, successfully training 40 general ophthalmologists and 45 allied healthcare professionals in screening, grading, and treatment of diabetic retinopathy. His expertise and dedication have established him as a leader in cataract and refractive surgery.

Mr Deshmukh performed lens replacement on my right eye recently. I received a comprehensive explanation of the different available replacement lens types and the operation itself was absolutely painless. The vision is now so much better and I'm looking forward to having the same procedure done on my left eye next week. I am very pleased indeed with the outcome.

I was extremely happy with the lens replacement procedure carried out by Mr Deshmukh eighteen months ago. I had worn contact lenses for 45 years but four years ago, in my early 60's, had to abandon them for glasses, on which I was completely dependent. After the procedure I only needed to wear +1 glasses for reading the smallest print (eg ingredient lists on food packets). I had both eyes done on the same day which was easy and convenient and was back at work the following afternoon. The procedure itself was completed within about 45 minutes and all the staff were kind, supportive and helpful. I would recommend sedation on top of the anaesthetic as although the procedure is painless it helps to be completely relaxed. Just over a year after the procedure I gradually started experiencing cloudy vision which resulted in a return visit to Mr Deshmukh who diagnosed posterior capsule opacification. He treated this on the spot with lasers (which took about 5 minutes) and my excellent vision was instantly restored to my delight.

I underwent bilateral cataract surgery with Mr. Rajesh Deshmukh, opting for trifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs). As an optometrist, I had considered surgery for years due to my high myopia and significant astigmatism in my left eye. Now, I can confidently say I wish I had done it sooner. My distance vision is exceptional—better than 20/20—and my near vision has exceeded expectations, which is crucial for my profession, requiring precision for microscopy and trial frames. I no longer need glasses, and the results have been life-changing. Thank you, Mr. Deshmukh!
