About Dr James Rakshi

Dr James Rakshi has been a consultant neurologist for 20 years and has extensive expertise in diagnosing and managing a wide range of acute and chronic neurological problems. He treats all general neurology problems as well as dementia, dizziness, epilepsy, headache, head injury, multiple sclerosis, neck and back problems, Parkinson's, sleep problems, stroke, and sensory disturbance.

Dr Rakshi earned his medical degree in 1988 from Aberdeen University in Scotland. He became interested in neurology and brain imaging whilst working in the Neurology and Neurosurgical unit of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where the first clinical MRI brain scanner was built. Dr Rakshi studied general medicine for over four years before specialising in neurology, which allows him to approach neurology in a more holistic way. His neurology training was undertaken at various prominent London hospitals, including the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, where he later became an Honorary Consultant. Additionally, he has worked in many of London's district general hospitals and has run an advanced multiple sclerosis centre.

Each patient's symptoms manifest in a unique way, and Dr Rakshi uses a variety of techniques to better assess and treat his patients. He understands the importance of taking the time to listen to his patients and their families, as well as having an open mind when evaluating the more critical and urgent diagnoses; sometimes an inadvertent statement from the patient or family can offer a vital clue that leads to a diagnosis.

Dr Rakshi is known for clearly explaining the patient's neurological condition and how best to treat it. He is also frequently asked to provide a second opinion. He prides himself on arranging investigations in a timely manner and providing detailed reports that are easy to understand. Dr Rakshi's overall approach is straightforward: treat every patient the same way you would want to be treated yourself.

I saw Dr Rakshi after experiencing a frightening incident / episode and needed an MRI. It was a stressful and uncertain time, however from the start he was calm, clear and incredibly reassuring. He took the time to explain everything in plain English, answered all of my questions thoroughly, and never once made me feel rushed. No jargon, no clock-watching — just proper care. What really stood out was his commitment and expertise. His expertise gave great comfort. He responded to my messages even over a weekend and bank holiday, which I honestly didn’t expect and really appreciated. It made a huge difference knowing someone was actually looking out for me. This was one of the best experiences I’ve had in a medical setting.

His manner and approach to me about my condition, and the steps he advised would be taken, was explained in the easiest of terms and I felt reassured that there was a solution once the tests were carried out. I had a very good experience having Dr Rakshi as my Doctor consult me through my epilepsy and other related problems. It is a sensitive topic so having a Doctor that creates an environment that allows me to be comfortable to talk to was key. It was very easy to share with him and it showed he was very personable and understanding to my situation. Also, he covered all basis with the different solutions that would help me, whether that be; increasing and discussing the dose of my medication, putting myself in certain environments with a higher/lower risk, what to do and what not to do, which in a sense eased my stress about my epilepsy and I found that very comforting. Having an episode can be stressful, however after our meeting it definitely calmed me down and reduced my angst greatly on the situation. His help and consultation was greatly appreciated.

Dr Rakshi provided me brilliant support, from the very first to the last consultation. He listened carefully and was able to empathise from his own personal experiences. He ensured that my health came first and how we needed to manage in the moment but also going forward. He was very informative and explained results in detail answering all the questions we had. He was also extremely thorough in reaching out to fellow professionals linked to my case for a 2nd opinion and clarification of recommendations. I would just like to thank Dr Rakshi and would highly recommend him if required.

He comprehensively asked and listened to my medical history and was very thorough in his examination and generous with his time. He diagnosed my cervical condition and gave a clear explanation. I have gone though his recommended treatment, pain management and follow-up plan and feel very much better. I highly recommend Dr. Rakshi.

I have known and worked with James for many years. As a GP I want a consultant to pick the phone up if I call as if I do need to call they will know it is important. James is superb and always on the end of a phone to guide me where needed and see my patients very quickly. We work as a team where I may do the work up, so by time he sees the patient he has what he needs, thus streamlining the patient journey and involving less stress. James is an excellent clinician and well like by his patients. He is one of best neurologists I know and I have no hesitation him giving him a 5* review
