About Mr Sam Gidwani

Mr Sam Gidwani is a Consultant Hand and Wrist surgeon, based at Guy's & St Thomas' Hospitals, London. His practice is focused entirely on disorders and injuries of the hand, wrist and forearm. He regularly treats musicians, as well as professional and amateur sportsmen and women, and was one of the surgeons dealing with athletes' hand and wrist injuries during the 2012 London Olympics.

Mr Gidwani completed his orthopaedic training in 2006, and obtained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (Trauma & Orthopaedics). He then spent two years in further training at specialist hand and wrist centres including the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, the Pulvertaft Hand Centre in Derby, and the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, Australia. This period of training culminated in the award of the British Hand Surgery Diploma. He began his consultant career at Guy's & St Thomas' in 2009. Between 2014 and 2017, he was the Clinical Lead of the Guy's Orthopaedic Department, one of the largest and busiest units in London.

As well as being a busy clinician, Mr Gidwani is actively involved in training junior surgeons; he serves on the British Hand Surgery Society's Instructional Course Committee, and is co-founder and convener of the St Thomas' cadaveric hand trauma course. He keeps his own knowledge and skills up-to-date by regular attendance at national and international conferences, whether as a delegate or member of the teaching faculty. His research interests include the treatment of scaphoid fractures, and the use of joint replacement in the hand and wrist.

Mr Gidwani, is extremely knowledgable and experienced within his field; he treats his patients with kindness and respect, and ensures that they feel included in the whole process of their care and treatment.

Mr Gidwani has been great. He has explained everything carefully, allowing me to weigh options, ask questions and make decisions at my own pace. The final operation (a right wrist replacement) was clearly fairly tricky, but has successfully relieved me of pain and I am delighted. Mr Gidwani's stitching is remarkably neat and I have only minimal signs of the surgery. He has been efficient, courteous and good/humoured throughout and I would have no hesitation recommending him to anyone with a similar Injury.

Dr Mr Sam Gidwani saw me at the 17 Lodge Road clinic , London last week. His PA had managed to arrange an urgent appointment for me. Dr Mr Sam Gidwani was on time, very professional, had managed to arrange an X-ray and a hand physio for me on the same day so that no time was wasted. His medical advice was very clear and precise. I am very impressed and very grateful for his professional advice and attention. Big thank you

As a fellow medic, there is no higher praise for colleague than to trust them with the care for one's mother. My mother was suffering De Quervain's tenosynovitis of her wrist, and needed an expedient steroid injection ... and Sam came highly recommended, and I somehow sensed he'd be right for my mother ... and he was exactly that! I have no hesitation in recommending Sam's care for your loved ones too.
