About Professor Howard Branley
Professor Branley is a lung specialist and is on the Specialist Register with the General Medical Council (GMC) as a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine providing specialist diagnosis and treatment for respiratory, chest and sleep disorders. Professor Branley has specialised in respiratory medicine for 30 years. He was appointed as an NHS Consultant in 2003. Professor Branley typically sees patients with cough, wheeze, breathlessness and snoring. Professor Branley has expertise in a wide variety of lung diseases particularly asthma, lung nodules, lung cancer, sarcoidosis, sleep apnoea, tuberculosis (TB), pneumonia and pleural disease e.g. pneumothorax and pleural effusion. Professor Branley is particularly interested in seeing patients with unexplained breathlessness or cough and will work with you in a methodical manner to establish a diagnosis and formulate a personalised management plan.
Professor Branley trained in Respiratory Medicine in London teaching hospitals including The Royal Brompton, The Hammersmith, St Mary's and Charing Cross Hospitals. Professor Branley has also trained in aviation medicine at the Royal Air Force School of Aviation Medicine and he is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.
Professor Branley has a particular interest in exercise physiology and VO2 max testing. He is a member of the British Association of Sports & Exercise Medicine (BASEM) and a diplomate member of the Faculty of Sport & Exercise Medicine UK (FSEM), having been successful in the Diploma in Exercise Medicine examination..
Professor Branley has a keen interest in medical education and he is a Visiting Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University of West London. He has been an Honorary Senior Lecturer at University College London, Imperial College London and the University of Buckingham. Professor Branley was also an Honorary NHS Consultant in Respiratory Medicine at the Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Professor Branley was revalidated by the GMC on 7th October 2021 with his next revalidation due in October 2026. Professor Branley's most recent annual Consultant Appraisal was on 30th September 2024.

Prof Branley was friendly and approachable throughout. He undertook a thorough consultation gathering information for 20 minutes plus before considering any agreeing the way forward - further diagnostics prior to considering a plan for the way forward. Exactly what I wanted and needed.

Professor Howard Branley is has an excellent high level of patient care. He puts the patient at ease, he listenned to my symptoms with no rush, he was very understanding to my difficulty breathing, my pain, , my weezing,examined me with detail, explained to me his plan of action and exams to perform yo find out what is wrong and why i am feeling this way,and prescribed me the correct medication for the time being. I feel very safe and comfortable with his professional expertise and he is still investigating with me further more, so he won't miss anything or leave any doubts. I felt that even though there's nothing to worry about it for now, Professor Howard Branley didn't dismiss my symptoms and he wants to reassure me, that when i leave his consulting room next time as a follow up appointment, i won't be feeling any doubts about the health of my lungs. Another thing i like about Professor Howard Branley, he is a very warm person and has an amazing bedside manner with his patients. He talks to you calmly and leaves you not to worry at all about whatever is going on with your health. Excellent specialist and it was an excellent choice from my GP Pixie Mc Kenna. I do recommend this specialist to anyone who have a respiratory health problem. I am very grateful to Professor Howard Branley for his care towards me.🙏👍👏
