About Mr Stavros Karamanakos
Mr Karamanakos is a General and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon at the Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital. He sees patients with a wide range of benign upper GI diseases and performs a range of surgeries including gastrectomy, anti-reflux surgery, cholecystectomy (removal of gallbladder), and paraoesophageal hernia repair. He is also the emergency service lead, and he has established a number of clinical pathways as well as a Surgical Ambulatory Unit.
Mr Karamanakos earned his medical degree from Semmelweis University of Medicine, Budapest. He then spent time in the United Kingdom and Greece where he completed his surgical training before completing his CCT in General Surgery from the University Hospital of Patras in Greece in 2009. Following that, he became a consultant surgeon in the University Hospital of Patras, where he focused predominantly on the management of morbidly obese patients with bariatric surgery. He achieved a PhD for his work in bariatric surgery and gastrointestinal hormones, and he has been widely published in prestigious medical journals including 'The Annals of Surgery.'
Mr Karamanakos later undertook advanced laparoscopic surgical training at the world-renowned IRCAD/EITS center in Strasbourg, France and has also completed fellowships in gastrointestinal surgery at London's Whipps Cross Hospital and Kings College Hospital.

Mr Kararmanakos was extremely professional from the 1st consultation explaining the procedure of what was going to happen and the reason why he was doing it and how he made me feel so at ease it was how he made me feel so comfortable.He also said the exact details what will happen after surgery which with expertise went as planned even though I was a lot worse than they 1st thought but with his experience and knowledge he managed to pull it off which I will be forever grateful for.And the last check up he was really pleased of how I healed and the operation was a success I can not recommend him any higher 10/10.

Mr Karamanakos performed a bi lateral inguinal hernia repair. From first consultation thru to surgery was a very comforting experience, and he made me feel very confident I had made the right decision to choose him for this procedure.
